Human error causes most car accidents

When people get into car accidents, they will often blame a variety of factors. They may blame the road design, saying it was too confusing. They could blame weather conditions, saying that they didn’t have enough visibility.

But the reality is that the drivers should probably just be blaming themselves. Research indicates that at least nine out of every ten car accidents are caused by human error. The only reason that the accident happened in the first place is because that driver made a mistake.

Often, the disconnect is that drivers do not realize that they are making mistakes. Even after the accident, the driver may be unsure of why it happened.

Driving in the fog

For example, someone who causes a rear-end accident while driving in the fog may naturally blame the low visibility. They’ll say that they simply couldn’t see, so it’s not their fault. The fog caused the crash.

But that rear driver is likely still at fault. When driving in the fog, it is their responsibility to recognize that the low visibility affects their ability to drive safely. They need to use their fog lights, reduce their speed, and even pull off of the road if it’s too dangerous to continue driving.

If the driver fails to take these steps, they certainly may feel like the fog caused the accident, but they are actually liable because they were driving incorrectly in the fog.

Seeking compensation

Unfortunately, drivers make serious mistakes every day, whether they realize it or not. You are only as safe as the drivers around you, and you need to know how to seek financial compensation if one of them makes a mistake and causes an accident.
